Power System Protection and Control

Course Overview

The course provides in-depth guidelines for relay protection and setting calculation. It also reviews power system faults and instrument transformers. It will facilitate to get skills for calculating settings and testing of protection operation conditions. It also briefly provides introduction to communication within digital substations (IEC 61850). In situ students will have an opportunity to be exposed to the power system laboratory to learn more about different applications regarding power system protection by using commercial IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Device).

MAIN GOAL

The main objective of the course is to provide advanced knowledge the principles and schemes for protecting power lines, transformers, buses, generators and introduces the fundamentals of wide-area monitoring and control (SCADA and EMS).

On completion of this module the learner will/should have a fundamental understanding of:
