Marine Machinery - Design and Condition Monitoring

Course Overview

This course provides an introduction to design, condition monitoring and fault detection of machinery used in marine operations as well as power transmission systems in marine and offshore renewable energy applications.

Course Highlights

Design, dynamic analysis, vibration-based condition monitoring and fault detection of mechanical and hydraulic systems used in marine operation, offshore installation, ship power systems, offshore wind turbines and wave energy convertors.

MAIN GOAL

To introduce topics of design and dynamic analysis of machinery used in marine operations, lifting, installation, transportation, offshore renewable industry, aquaculture and subsea industry. This includes vibration isolation, heave compensation and hydraulic system used in motion control and automation.

Learning Outcomes

After completion of this course, you will gain the ability to:

  • + Design and select power transmission systems in ships, offshore wind turbines and similar in marine environment.
  • + Use state-of-the-art design codes implemented in the industry.
  • + Employ latest software and tools used today to design and model such systems.
  • + Employ vibration-based condition monitoring for fault detection.
  • + Employ signal processing methods for fault detection.
